David Bensinger, founder of Bensinger Technology, and Andrew Piper, founder of Focus NY, joined forces to create a company dedicated to helping small businesses thrive with efficient and secure technology solutions. Towards the tail end of 2024, Bensinger Technology and FocusNY merged to form Focus IT. At the heart of their goals for the new company lies a shared vision to deliver unparalleled IT solutions and support to businesses in New York City and beyond.

A Passion for Technology & Education
David Bensinger is a seasoned technology leader with a proven track record of helping businesses grow through smart, strategic IT solutions. After earning a PhD in Brain & Cognitive Sciences, he made a successful transition from academia to the tech services industry. Since moving to New York City in 1997, David has built his career from the ground up—gaining hands-on experience at both startups and established firms before launching his own IT support company in 2009. His work is fueled by a deep passion for empowering people and organizations through the thoughtful use of technology.
In addition to his professional achievements, David is a passionate advocate for technology education and workforce development. David is a regular speaker on careers in technology and offers practical advice to individuals looking to break into or advance within the IT industry. He actively volunteers with the New York branch of Per Scholas, a nonprofit focused on creating pathways to tech careers, where he mentors aspiring professionals and frequently gives motivational talks. He recently delivered a keynote speech at a Per Scholas graduation ceremony, sharing his personal journey and inspiring future leaders in the field.

Andrew Piper’s career in information technology began in San Francisco at UCSF’s Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics, where he supported a Nobel Prize-winning facility. Immersed in a fast-paced, research-driven environment, Andrew developed a deep appreciation for technology’s power to solve problems and support innovation. From managing large-scale projects to streamlining complex systems, this early experience sparked a passion that would shape his career.

After relocating to New York City, Andrew continued to expand his expertise while working in IT for an academic publishing company. His growing interest in helping businesses use technology more effectively led him to freelance consulting, and eventually, to founding Focus NY — a firm dedicated to IT strategy, cybersecurity, and technology optimization for businesses across NYC.

Outside of his work in IT consulting, Andrew enjoys playing music and performs regularly with several local bands. He’s also a proud dog dad to Oakley, his energetic chocolate lab, and loves supporting his daughter as she prepares for college.
